The Calhan Town Cemetery was originally opened in XXXX with 233 lots. Unfortunately, many lots were filled by our brave U.S. Service Members fallen during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. In 1969, XXXX and XXXX Haver puchased a small piece of the adjacent ranchland to add 191 additonal lots known as the Haver Extension.
The Town owns and manages the Calhan Cemetery. Visit Town Hall to purchase a cemetery plot and for burial arrangements. A directory at the entrance of the Cemetery lists all persons buried at the Cemetery and is also available for download. The Calhan Public Works Department is responsible for ground-keeping and maintenance of the cemetery. The Calhan Cemetery Committee meets as needed to ensure our cemetery is receiving the attention and care necessary.
The local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) chapter sells and maintains the commemorative flag poles that border the cemetery. Their volunteers raise and lower U.S. flags on every cemetery flag pole on special occasions such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day. They can also raise U.S. flags for burial services of fallen U.S. Service Members. The sight of Old Glory flying on many flag poles reminds one of the sacrifices made to ensure our freedoms.
The Calhan Town Cemetery is open dawn to dusk year-round. A Cemetery map and directory is available to download in the Resource Room.
Chapter 7 of the Town Ordinance and Code Book covers Cemetery rules and regulations.
