Peace Officers Memorial Day

Federal Proclamation

Enacted by President John F. Kennedy on October 1, 1962, this event pays tribute to the local, state, and Federal peace officers who have died in the line of duty, and is the centerpiece of Police Week. The event draw 25,000 to 40,000 law enforcement officers and their families to Washington, D.C. every year.
